Cyanotypie und Floral Design
Project
Cyanotype and Floral Design for Kunstmuseum Basel
Date
May 2024
Creating 100 cyanotypes for the Kunstmuseum Basel.
Challenges included time constraints due to the limited lifespan of fresh flowers and the unpredictability of the cyanotype process. Precise planning and execution were necessary to ensure the cyanotypes were completed on time. The use of artificial light in the studio allowed controlled exposure. Hahnemühle Fine Art Rag paper made from 100% cotton served as the foundation for the desired aesthetic and qualitative results.
Various glass vessels were utilized as containers as they could best reflect the diversity of the cyanotypes. Flowers were sparingly and loosely placed in the vessels, either with a Kenzan or without a flower holder, to create diversity and structure in the cyanotypes.
In total, over 45 cyanotypes were produced for table decorations and 55 cyanotypes were made as double cards to be used as menu cards and lovely give aways.
A documentary film provides insights into the production process and the techniques applied in creating these cyanotypes.
