Floral Table Decoration for Kunstmuseum Basel. Preview "Paula Rego. Machtspiele."

For the preview of the exhibition „Paula Rego. Machtspiele.“ at Kunstmuseum Basel, I designed a floral table decoration inspired by Rego’s work, The Artist in Her Studio.
The combination of dried and fresh flowers reflects central themes in Rego’s work: transience, resistance, and transformation. The carnations, a symbol of the Portuguese „Carnation Revolution,“ particularly embody the spirit of resistance that resonates throughout her art.
Sustainability was also a key consideration: instead of using environmentally harmful floral foam, I opted for glass and Kenzan. These spiky Kenzan, with their unconventional and rugged aesthetic, emphasize the theme of transformation. They hold the flowers in place while allowing for a flexible arrangement that echoes the dynamic character of Rego’s work.
Mirrors reflect the arrangement, creating depth and enhancing the themes of change and ambiguity present in Rego’s art.
